Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Android 9 Pie Update: News and FAQ

Android Pie 9.0 is the newest flavor in town, and the only phones that are running it currently are Google’s Pixel line up and the Android P 9.0 doesn’t have a massive overhaul and most of the things changed noticeably is the navigation experience which now gestures based. So, there isn’t something that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge s are missing out.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are currently running on Galaxy S8 which is the successor of the Galaxy S7; will get the Android Pie in mid-2019, after the Galaxy S9/S9+ receives it, which is probably in early Q1 2019.

22 March 2019: Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are not getting March 2019 Android security patch update globally.

2 February 2019: Samsung Galaxy S7 Active is now getting Android January Security patch update with the build number G891AUCS4CSA3. As we already notified you that all the Galaxy S7 series smartphones would not get the Android Pie or OneUI update.

19 December: Samsung is now rolling out the December 2018 Android security patch for the Galaxy S7 (as G930FXXS3ERKP), and Galaxy S7 Edge (as G935FXXS3ERKP), the update is based on Android Oreo 8.0.

Update: As the reports are surrounding, Samsung Android Pie update is based on Samsung’s newly launched ONE UI, and according to the report Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will not get the OneUI update which means that S7 series will not get the Android Pie update too.

However, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have plenty of Android developers community and most Android Pie 9.0 based ROMs for the handset will be arriving soon by the end of 2018 to early 2019. So, it’s better to have something than getting stuck at a year old version, which isn’t a bad thing anyway.

Google should only release one major update in 2 years instead of rolling a new one every ten months or so. However, some community are suggesting that Samsung may release the update for the Galaxy S7 series smartphone, but this news should be taken as a pinch of salt.
